A successful journey isn’t just about the places visited, but how those places continue to live on within us.
When we travel, we absorb the world through all five senses: we take in new landscapes, notice unfamiliar sounds, feel new textures, and taste regional flavors. Yet, when it comes to preserving these memories, we often settle for the tangible: magnets, postcards, or small figurines. While charming, these items rarely capture the emotional essence of what the trip felt like.
The Power of the Fifth Sense
Smell has a uniquely direct relationship with memory and emotion. Harvard Medicine Magazine highlights how scent signals move quickly through brain pathways connected to emotion and memory, including regions such as the amygdala and hippocampus, which helps explain why a meaningful scent can bring back a moment with striking immediacy, even years later (Molly McDonough, 2024).
Controlled research also suggests scent can be an especially powerful autobiographical cue. In a research on autobiographical memory, de Bruijn & Bender (2018) found that childhood-related odors prompted people to report richer autobiographical memories than comparable childhood-related images.
That’s the “why” behind the workshop experience at NOTE – The Scent Lab: crafting a scent is a way to bottle a place, a trip, or a moment – so you can return to it in a single breath.
More Than a Souvenir: A Vessel for Emotion
At NOTE, perfume-making is designed as a sensory craft, and also as a memory practice.
Instead of buying an object that represents Vietnam, guests translate what they’ve felt in Vietnam into something they can carry: a scent that can be worn, revisited, and re-lived. For teams, it becomes a shared ritual — individual creations, born from a collective trip.
A Masterclass in Scent for GIC Private Limited
On a rainy day in late February, NOTE welcomed GIC Private Limited from Singapore. For their 22-person team, the workshop was an exploration of Vietnamese story and palette through fragrance.
The NOTE Module:
- The Fundamentals
Guests explore the fragrance wheel and perfume pyramid; learn how top, middle, and base notes interact, not only as theory, but as a practical toolkit for building balance and character.
- The Signature
Using a curated library of essential oils, each participant builds a fragrance that feels personal — a wearable “memory architecture” shaped by their own preferences and associations. Final formats typically range from 10ml to 50ml Eau de Parfum depending on the workshop package.
- Premium Standards & Safety
NOTE works with perfume-grade materials and follows industry best practices for safe formulation, strictly adhering to IFRA global safety standards.
Why This Matters for Global Teams
This isn’t only a fun activity; it maps naturally to what many organizations want from an offsite: connection, identity, and a shared emotional anchor.
In consumer and brand research, sensory brand experience is often linked with outcomes like satisfaction, attachment, and loyalty, because multi-sensory experiences strengthen emotional association and meaning-making.
For teams, a scent-making experience functions similarly: it creates a “marker” that helps the trip stay vivid and personally relevant after everyone returns home.
Joining an Elite Global Network
GIC joins a growing list of international business groups that have chosen NOTE for team experiences in Vietnam over the past year including Google Global, Sharesource (Philippines), Adelaide (Australia), among others. Each workshop is designed to be culturally grounded, professionally facilitated, and memorable in a way guests can take with them — in a bottle.
A Vietnam Experience Trusted by Travelers
For many international visitors, NOTE is also part of the Vietnam itinerary — not just as a workshop, but as a destination experience. With a Travelers’ Choice Award from TripAdvisor and over 4,000 satisfied clients, we are excited to continue bringing the story of Vietnam to the world, one bottle at a time.
Your Scent, Like Your Memory, Should Be Unique
A photo captures how something looked. A souvenir captures where you went. But scent captures something rarer: how it felt.
If your team is looking for a perfume-making workshop in Vietnam that blends culture, creativity, and emotional resonance – the kind of experience people talk about long after they’ve flown home – NOTE is ready to welcome you.
